Welcome to the exhibition “Tori Wrånes. Showcasing both new

The National Museum focus on documentary and portrait photography: From the American pioneers of social documentary to Torbjørn Rødland’s emotional imagery, via Vibeke Tandberg’s and Cindy Sherman’s explorations of identity.

The exhibition “SNAP: Documentary and Portrait Photography from the Collection” will showcase photographic art ranging from the genre’s nineteenth-century infancy until today’s neo-conceptual offerings. The National Museum’s new director is Karin Hindsbo

Karin Hindsbo (42) will succeed Audun Eckhoff as museum director of the National Museum for a term of six years. Hindsbo comes directly from the position as director of KODE Art Museums of Bergen. She takes over Eckhoff’s position on the 1st of June, 2017.

​A dialogue between Lina Bo Bardi and Sverre Fehn in The National museum - Architecture in parallel with “The Norwegian Glasshouse” exhibition.

Lina Bo Bardi’s iconic glasshouse in São Paulo, Casa de Vidro from 1952, will be presented inside Sverre Fehn’s glass Pavilion from 2008. This juxtaposition of Bo Bardi and Fehn sets up a dialogue between two architects. The exhibition also includes new commissioned works by the German artist Veronika Kellndorfer featuring images of Casa de Vidro. The exhibition curator is Markus Richter.

New exhibition at the National Museum puts select works of art under a microscope: How the museum determined that A Man Fishing was a genuine Courbet

The National Museum has recently carried out research on the provenance of A Man Fishing by Gustave Courbet, and uncovered reliable evidence that the museum’s painting was executed by the artist himself. This mystery is what the “Under the Microscope: Gustave Courbet” exhibition at the National Gallery is all about. The exhibition opens on 18 November and will run until 5 February 2017.

“We play while we practise” was Sidsel Paaske’s motto in life. She was always searching for an unvarnished and genuine outlet for her energy outside of the norms of quality. What does nature mean to you? In the exhibition “NORSK NATUR”, the Norwegian artist Toril Johannessen and the Danish artist Tue Greenfort join forces to discuss nature.

Oslo Architecture Triennale: Where do we belong?

The 2016 Oslo Architecture Triennale presents two main exhibitions. The exhibition “In Residence” at the National Museum – Architecture is shown in parallel with the exhibition “On Residence” at The Norwegian Centre for Design and Architecture. The two exhibitions illustrates how our sense of identity and belonging is constantly changing.

​Exhibition on Nordic enthusiasm for the exotic opens 17 June: Japanomania at the National Gallery and the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design

For the first time ever, an exhibition will focus on the wide-ranging Japanese influence on Nordic art and design around 1900. Works by leading Nordic artists such as Gerhard Munthe, Bruno Liljefors, Helene Schjerfbeck, and Oda Krohg will be presented alongside works by European pioneers such as Monet, Gauguin, and van Gogh. An advance viewing for the press will be held on Thursday, 16 June.

The exhibition “Lars Backer – architect. A pioneer of Norwegian Modernism” tells the story of Lars Backer’s life, explains his contribution to Norwegian architecture, and sheds light on the era he lived in.
